So today marks the birthdays of two of the most beloved people in a potterhead’s life. Joanne Kathleen Rowling and Harry James Potter.

Today, me and Michelle were planning on going to Starbucks after school to celebrate with a Butterbeer (she knows what to say on the counter)! But then, it rained… really hard. Honestly, if rain was a person i would’ve hexed it into oblivion.

So, I just went home and made this. Hihi. A mug of Cappuccino with Harry’s scar. :3 Thank Merlin for Cappuccino in sachets.

Thank you, Harry. Thank you, Jo. The magic will live on forever. <3

Rest In Peace, Janel.

Sorry I haven't got the chance to take good pictures 'cause it's hard to move for there are lots of people hanging on the scene. In case you're wondering what I'm talking about, I'm going to tell you a sad story.
I once had a friend, daughter of my dad's pal. I remember us having a picture with my cousin and this is the creepy part. I went through some stuff maybe 2 nights before I found out about the news. And I saw our picture with Janel, Ashley, my cousin, and I. I don't really know where I put that now.
I went home from school, changed my clothes and went to see what my parents were doing. They were lying on the bed. My mum asked me, "What's the name of Jonie's daughter? The kid you used to play with back when you were little children." (Tito Jonie is my dad's pal)
"I don't remember. I think it's Shirley?" I replied.
"No. That's the name of her mother."
"Well, I don't really remember. Why?"
Then my mum told me that she was gone.
She had appendicitis and her appendix should be removed from her body immediately. Like my uncle who had an operation just a month ago, I think.
When the doctor/s put anesthesia on her, she had an allergy which caused her death. Her body became reddish and then after some time, she was gone.
I feel sorry for her family. Having a loss of a family member hurts SO MUCH especially that she's only 11 years old and THAT she will turn 12 in LESS THAN A MONTH! When I saw her corpse, I was shocked. Her face is like an old lady's. Her eyes are swollen. I can't take it. I wanna cry but I managed to help it.
The day of her interment came. Here it is. We went to the venue but we don't know exactly where she'll be buried so we took some round trips.
We found her family at the end road of the cemetery. I started to be nervous without knowing the reason why. Here comes the men who will have her body buried. Last glance of her now. I can hear her mother crying so loud saying, "BABY! Baby."
They call her Baby Janel. Her family wore purple shirts with her photo on them. She was lifted to the hole then rolled downwards using some kind of a tool.
It's done. They put back the soil then it's done. It's time for us to go back home.
This incident taught me the same lesson I learn every time.
Treasure every moment you have while you can still do things. Do your mission and have fun. If it's time to go, it's time. You can't stop fate and destiny. No one knows the end of life so live to the fullest!
Did I mention her father is not around during the incident? He was working overseas. It's sad. So please join me in praying for her soul.
May you rest in God's peace, Baby Janel!

Whenever I play the songs of these artists, I always get that 50’s-80’s feel. The atmosphere and melody makes me want to live in the good old days of typewriters, puffy flowery dresses, The Beatles, vinyl records and film cameras.
But what’s also captivating about their music is the lyrics. Nowadays, most songs doesn’t have any sense and most of the lyrics contains the words “hoes, bitch, fuckin’, swag” and other annoying profane words. A bit of profanity won’t hurt but if majority of the song is filled with sex and cursing, *bleh* next song please.
Going back, listening to their music makes me feel secure and calm. The vintage touch in their music is very captivating. They’re lyrics are relatable and commendable and I find myself in a serene state listening to their songs.
Beautiful melody, beautiful lyrics, beautiful music. The perfect cup of tea.

I used to worry so much about things in my life. I used to over think a lot. My stomach would constantly be in twists and knots whenever I think about it. I’d worry about small things, about tomorrow, about, things I’ve done wrong, about words I said, about regrets, about possibilities. I worried about big things out of my control, I worried about things I couldn’t change, I worried about things that will change.
If we look back, things always work out one way or another. It may not be what we planned or what we want but once you breathe out, you’ll realize things will be okay even if you don’t know how yet.

Review: The Perks of Being A Wallflower

The Perks of Being A Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky

My Rating: ★★★★ (4.3/5 stars)

WARNING: May Contain spoilers

Dear Friend,

Have you ever felt confused? Or, like, you have a hard time explaining things to people, telling them how you feel and then you say it in a wrong way so you have no idea how to take it back or how to fix it, so it makes you feel like you’re doing something wrong? Or have you ever felt lonely, so lonely that you just want to break everything around you just so all the noise can fill out the deafening silence that is surrounding you? Have you ever experienced having fear of the things will happen when you do something you are not sure about, because you know that you tend to unintentionally screw things up? I’m sure you have. We all have. Most of us went through this at our times in High School. Even before and/or after high school. We can never doubt the fact that this kind of feeling cannot be fully avoided.

Quote:

“I can’t think again. Not ever again. I don’t know if you’ve ever felt like that. That you wanted to sleep for a thousand years. Or just not exist. Or just not be aware that you do exist. Or something like that. I think wanting that is very morbid, but I want it when I get like this. That’s why I’m trying not to think. I just want it all to stop spinning.”

The Plot: Standing on the fringes of life offers a unique perspective. But there comes a time to see what it looks like from the dance floor. This haunting novel about the dilemma of passivity vs. passion marks the stunning debut of a provocative voice in contemporary fiction: The Perks of Being a Wallflower. This is the story of what it’s like to grow up in high school. More intimate than a diary, Charlie’s letters are singular and unique, hilarious and devastating. We may not know where he lives. We may not know to whom he is writing. All we know is the world he shares. Caught between trying to live his life and trying to run from it puts him on a strange course through uncharted territory. The world of first dates and mixed tapes, family dramas and new friends. The world of sex, drugs, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show, when all one requires is that perfect song on that perfect drive to feel infinite. Through Charlie, Stephen Chbosky has created a deeply affecting coming-of-age story, a powerful novel that will spirit you back to those wild and poignant roller coaster days known as growing up.

Let me just say that if you happen to pass by this book in that bookstore you go to every week, and you read the blurb at the back and you start to think that this book is for teenagers who have a hard time in life or simply because they want a book to read that they can relate to, please do not continue on that thought. This book is very much for adults as well. This book isn’t about a simple boy-next-door teenager who goes through the normal problems about his friends, or his girlfriend or his school life. No. This book, how I saw it, is about friendship, and love. No, not the love that Romeo and Juliet, Ron and Hermione, Bella and Edward have. The love I’m talking about is the feeling you have for the people who care about you. For those who will never leave your side, or the feelings you have for those who saved your life from confusion, depression, sadness, and hardships.

Chbosky has put the story into Charlie’s point of view. Only, it is very different from the books with a 1st person P.O.V. (Like The Hunger Games, Beastly, Cirque Du Freak, etc.). Chbosky put the idea of formatting the book by—instead of separating it with different chapters—making it look like the main character, Charlie, has written letters to a certain diary-like receiver whom he calls ‘friend.’ He writes about what happens in his school, his home, adding a touch of emotion to the day, people, or things he talks about. As I read through Chboksy’s writing, I saw that teens like me can be as oblivious to his surroundings as Charlie. Charlie is 15 and yet he didn’t know about masturbation until he met Patrick. He had no idea what it felt like to actually be in love with someone until he met Sam. He didn’t know the pleasure of BEING LOVED until he met Mary Elizabeth.

Maybe, we too are oblivious. In a different way than Charlie’s. Maybe one of our friends is just like Charlie. Confused. Misunderstood. Unaware. Lost. Maybe, all of this is what lays underneath their layer of happiness and laughter. This isn’t a “maybe” anymore, but surely, we meet these people for a reason. We meet them, we get to know them, we understand them…and then we help them. But we don’t meet them only because of that. We help them, and they help us too. They help us get back to the right path that we never really knew we were on. And we do the same for them.

Quote:

“We accept the love we think we deserve.”

For fans of Flipped, It’s Kind of a Funny Story, books by John Green, and the Catcher in The Rye. This will surely be on your ‘favorites’ shelf.

Happy Reading!

Let's Move Forward in One Direction. (LATE POST)

Vas Happenin'?! This might be my favorite out of the articles I made so far because my Directioner self would definitely show up. Yesterday, July 23, 2012, One Direction, also known as 1D, celebrated their 2nd anniversary as a band. As most of you know, they started in The X-Factor UK in 2010. They auditioned as individuals but are all eliminated during the Bootcamp. But according to Nicole Scherzinger and Simon Cowell, 2 of the judges and mentors, said that they're TOO talented to step out of the competition. So, they agreed to put them as a group. This was announced on July 23, 2010, 8:22 pm (UK time) which explains why that date is too meaningful to not only the boys but also to us, Directioners. It all started then. The boys competed for the competition as a group and declared 3rd placer.

Liam brought us a wonderful message when he failed to go further in 2008. (he also hoped for the crown last 2008.) Look at him now. One of the BEST-known artists working with other BEST singers in the industry. Niall's dream is to sell out arenas, make his OWN album, and work with the best artists in the world. He got more, SO MUCH MORE, than what he dreamt of.
Never lose hope when you fail to reach your dreams. HE has a better plan for us. Maybe not now, but someday. Trust me.

1D inspired a massive number of people in the world. Yes, they have taken over the world already. They have even got to the top higher than what The Beatles reached. Now, please do excuse me for I will end my article here. I have loads of things to say it might not even fit this page. But my tears are stopping me to type now. You read that right. Yup, I'm sobbing. If only you know how much it makes me so proud seeing them rising to the top. They have taken over the world. Yes. But more importantly, they gave meaning to the lives of the Directioners out there including me, of course. You might be touched by these amaZAYN, brilLIAM, phenomeNIALL, fabuLOUIS, extraordinHARRY, and 1Derful boys too after reading this, hopefully. So please check them out. You'll be amazed to experience different things and more because of them.

FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE STAIRS, TO THE TOP OF THE CHARTS. Please welcome, ONE DIRECTION.

One Night Only is a British indie rock band from HelmsleyNorth Yorkshire formed in 2003. I found out about them when I'm scrolling through the internet about Emma Watson and other HP-related stuff. Why, you ask? 'Cause as I mentioned in our playlist article, she is featured in One Night Only's 'Say You Don't Want It music video wherein George (the lead singer) licked her face!
George Craig is so hot, isn't he? (yep. I'm fond of boy groups with gorgeous lead singers.)
He handles the vocals and guitar. Mark Hayton, on the other hand, is on guitar and also handles backing vocals. Daniel Parkins is on bass. On keyboards and another backing vocalist, there goes Jack Sails. And the latest member, James Craig has been on drums since Sam Ford left in 2010. Another member in the past, Kai Smith has been in the band for only a year.
So, this song had been stuck on my head the whole day when I first heard it. Really catchy. Check it out! (it's on our playlist). It will never be too late to catch up on indie music.
Please do check them out and their songs. You'd be glad to find out something new. :)

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (Late post)

July 16, 2011 Saturday
I remember this day very well. I wore a floral tank top and a white cardigan over it. I had a shoulder bag with me that day and I didn’t wear my glasses. I just brought it with me but I didn’t wear it.
Anyhow, this was basically one of the best and saddest day of my life. After all those months waiting and waiting for the final installment, it’s finally here. And now that’s it’s finally here, I want to go back to my days when I first read the series way back in fourth grade.
I remember going to the cinema. I was shaking out of excitement. When the opening credits came, I was trembling. I was tearing up. The moment of my life is about to come yet it’s going to end.
I know it’s not the end of Harry Potter. The movie might end but the fandom won’t. Up to this day I can’t remember the feeling of watching it. Snape’s death. Dobby’s death. Romione’s kiss. Harry Potter and Lord Voldermort’s final battle. Hogwarts burning down. Everything was beautiful and magical. I was tearing out very very much especially at the closing credits part where everybody got up from their seats and applauded and cheered. I couldn’t be happier. It was definitely a moment worth remembering and sharing.
The magic never ends.

My Top 5 Picks(for now).

TOP 5: Looking For Alaska by John Green
This is the first (and only at the moment) novel I read by John Green. I loved it so much! I borrowed this from Roma when I slept over at her house. As soon as I started reading, I was pulled into the story for some reason. The first night I was reading (which was at Roma's), I've gona through almost half of it. I hated having to stop because I had to sleep. When I continued, I locked my self in my room just to finish this literary masterpiece. I think I drank three mugs of coffee throughout. I kept myself away from anyone while I read this, Oh God. I just didn't want to be disturbed. I can't wait to read more of John Green's books!

TOP 4: The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton lee Stewart
I cherished this book for a very long time. I brought it everywhere with me, even when I was finished. At first I had no knowledge about this book. Like, really. I was looking for The Book Thief then, but it was too expensive so I had to wait, but then poof! This appeared. Talk about serendipity. Mwahaha. When I started reading, I couldn’t put it down. The book and the events was glued to your mind. And after every event, you’ll be dying to find out what the characters will do next. And even at the end of the book, you’ll still get more of that flabbergasting feeling than you did in previous events. It will reveal things that you never really thought of. As if making the unimportant, important. So if you plan on buying this, expect the unexpected. Read the rest of my review here.

TOP 3: The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett
I absolutely LOVED this book! I felt like a kid again! I swear, as I read through, I actually really felt the characters emotions. There were times when I found myself so angry because of Colin and Mary's fight. I found myself laughing with joy while I read through Mary's time in the garden. This really brought out the adventurous side of me. Because of this book, i was able to do the things I wasn't able to do while I was younger. God, I thank Burnett so much for this brilliant collection of printed words. Read my full review here

TOP 2: Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare
The very first novel I truly appreciated. This is the first book out of Clare's The Infernal Devices. I am so grateful to the saleslady that recommended this to me. The humor, the romantic scenes, the tragedies. I loved everything about it! Cassie is a GENIUS! And Will and Jem, dammit! I love those two so much! Cassie really knows what her readers want. I mean, I don't usually appreciate those romantic ickity-ek. I hate books like that (It's exactly what stopped me form continuing The Sweep Series and the Immortals series). But this.. God. It isn't too much. It doesn't lack. In such cases, it even makes me ache at times. Right through the capillaries in my heart. But I thought I couldn't find a better novel. I was wrong. Read my full review here
TOP 1: Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare
Here's where I tell you what I meant when I said I was able to find a book better than Clockwork Angel.
This is really the only time I've encountered a series where book 2 was better than book 1. I can't freaking forget about Clockwork Prince. I mean, there are times when I would read a book, but then after I've finished, I wouldn't remember some events and quotes from that book. BUT THIS. I want to cry, I want to laugh, I want to burn this book for the feels it gave me. There was even a time I almost laughed out loud while I was in class (when we were talking about new seating arrangements). If you plan to read the series, make a mug of coffee, ready your tissue. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Let Your Cameras Shine!

Too bad, your vintage cameras are only collecting dust in your drawers. Well, we've got a Tipster for you, how to let your cameras shine brighter then ever.

The Italian designer Tommaso Guerra is well known for transforming any kind of object to household items. When getting his hands onto a vintage camera, he couldn’t resist, he just had to transform it to a lamp:

Stacie Grissom just had to do the same with her vintage cameras. Some of her colored slides were quite useful, too.

How to make your own camera lamp:

Glue three cameras together. Put the glue onto the hot shoe of the lower camera.

While the glue dries, make sure the cameras align correctly. Affix them with tape to ensure this.

When the glue has dried, you can put the lamp shade on. Use glue for this.

Now you need some key rings for your lamp shade (10mm or bigger), pliers, puncher, developed and framed slides, and the metal construction of a usual lamp shade.

First you need to punch 4 holes in each slide. Make sure the holes align, so your lamp shade looks fine.

Affix the slides with the key rings and attach them on the metal construction of an old lamp shade.

And voila, your camera lamp is done!

Movie Review: Norwegian Wood

Midori asking Toru the question, "What's true love for you?"

Toru, Reiko, and Naoko at the sanatorium.

Toru and Midori during swimming sessions.

Toru and Naoko spending some time together at the outskirts of the sanatorium.

Midori calling Toru to tell him the news of her father's condition.

Toru and his friend Nagasawa at his dormitory room.

Title: Norwegian Wood
Based on the novel by Haruki Murakami
Directed by: Tran Anh Hung
My rating: ★★★★

Plot: Toru Watanabe is a quiet and serious young man in 1960s Tokyo whose personal life is in tumult, having lost his best friend Kizuki after he inexplicably commits suicide. Seeking an escape, Toru enters a university in Tokyo. By chance, during a walk in a park, Toru meets Kizuki's ex-girlfriend Naoko, and they grow close. Naoko is devastated by the loss of Kizuki and spirals into a deep depression.
After Naoko's 20th birthday, which she shares with Toru, she withdraws from the world and leaves for a sanitarium in a remote forest setting nearKyoto. Toru is anguished by the situation, as he still has deep feelings for Naoko, but she is unable to reciprocate. He also lives with the influence of death everywhere, while Naoko feels as if some integral part of her has been permanently lost. He continues with his studies, and during the spring semester meets an attractive girl and fellow student Midori, who is everything that Naoko isn't — outgoing, vivacious, and supremely self-confident. The story then follows Toru as he is torn between the two women in his life, and choosing between his past and his future.

Review: Norwegian Wood may seem like a love story of the surface but it is so much more than that. This is a novel about loss, about the fragility of life, the fragility of the human mind and how our choices can affect others in heartbreaking ways.
Just like the book, watching “Norwegian Wood” is more like reading a poem than viewing a movie. Images were the movie's strength not words. The scenery was beautiful, I just hoped that they had more voice overs of Toru. But nonetheless, movie was satisfying and great. It stayed very true to the book. Tran did a very good job at making Murakami's Norwegian Wood come to life.
